About Us


The Big Stone County Highway Department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the county roads and bridges. Programming of road and bridge construction includes project scheduling, surveys, design, right-of-way acquisition, and contract administration. The Department is responsible for completing annual bridge safety inspection of all bridges on or over public roadways, except those bridges on or over State highways.


Routine county highway maintenance includes road repair, grading, drainage, signing, snow removal, ice control, and minor road improvements. Budgeting and accounting of all construction and maintenance is accomplished and reported annually.

ADA Transition within Public Right-of-Way

Big Stone County is required, under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to perform a self-evaluation of its current transportation infrastructure polices, practices, and programs.  Big Stone County’s ADA Transition Plan can be viewed at the following link:  BSC ADA TRANSITION PLAN  Comments and/or suggestions on the ADA Transition Plan are welcome and encouraged.
