Student Family Support Services

Student/Family Support Services is a school based integrated program designed to meet the needs of the "whole child" through combination of mental health, educational, community, and social services. This program is a cooperative effort between Big Stone County Family Services, the Clinton/Graceville/Beardsley and Ortonville School Districts. Services are provided by Master’s level therapists and Social Workers in consultation with a Licensed Psychologist and Psychiatrists.

Services may be provided on the school site as well as in the home and community. Students are mainstreamed and close coordination between special education and classroom teachers is maintained as necessary both in program planning and implementation

Eligible students are pre-school through grade twelve and their families who are experiencing emotional problems which are affecting them negatively in the academic, social, or family setting. Individual service plans are designed using the input of students and their family, regular and special education staff, mental health, Social Service, and other resource individuals who would be a part of the programming. Each student receives an array of services designed to meet their individual needs. Services include:

Individual Diagnostic Assessments

Individual Therapy for students and/or family members

Family Therapy

In-Home Family Therapy

In-Home Crisis Intervention

Group Therapy and Socialization

Consultation with parents and school personnel

Life Skills education and support

Referrals to financial and other community resources.

Referrals may be made by anyone. Referrals have come from families, self referrals by students, the Child Study process, school staff, and Social Services. All referrals are directed to the Social Worker/Program Coordinator and staffed by the team members to determine the appropriateness of the referral and to designate the appropriate service provider.
