Employment Opportunity - SWCD
Big Stone County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has an opening for a seasonal intern.
This seasonal position is under direct supervision of the Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) District Technician and the Big Stone SWCD Board of Supervisors. The position is primarily responsible for implementing projects in regard to weed management in Big Stone County. This is a multi-pronged approach focused on our newest invasive weeds that will include: education, documentation, mapping and treatment. This position will monitor, treat, and document the locations of invasive species infestations. This position will also gain valuable experience being involved with government programs and projects working within the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and with Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) agencies. Operation of machinery, equipment and/or farming background or other experience is preferred. The work hours are 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. The hours may vary based on what work is available to be completed. This position may also seed native grass seeding projects, grassland mowing and tree plantings as well as other duties as assigned by the Big Stone SWCD. This position is grant funded and has the possibility of being available for future seasons.
Big Stone County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has an opening for a Farmbill Technician.
The position will provide technical assistance and guidance to landowners through the Farmbill Assistance Grant. Job qualifications include a background in Natural Resources, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies or Wildlife education. Equivalent experience will also be considered. Main duties will include the promotion and management of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Continuous Conservation Reserve Program (CCRP), Re-invest in Minnesota (RIM), Native Prairie Bank (NPB), Working Lands Initiative (WLI) and other programs. Salary will depend on experience and qualifications, and a health plan package is also available through the SWCD.

Big Stone County Surplus items
Big Stone County surplus items are available for purchase to the general public. Items for sale may include all types of office furniture, tables, chairs, desks, file cabinets, office equipment, machines and supplies, typewriters, calculators, computers, printers, and many other miscellaneous items.
Items are available on a first-come, first-served basis, as-is, with no warranty. Returns are not allowed. Items are not considered "sold" until payment is received by the Auditor’s Office. All items must be removed at the time of sale. Payment must be made at the time of purchase and must be in the form of cash or money order payable to "Big Stone County". No checks will be accepted.
As items become available, they will be placed on the Surplus Items list. When an item is sold and paid for, it will be removed from the list.
